Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) held its first general council meeting in Chennai on Friday, where party chief Actor Vijay confidently declared that the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections would be a direct contest between TVK and DMK, leaving out the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from the equation.

“In 2026, the fight will be between only two parties—TVK and DMK. Tamil Nadu will witness a kind of election it has never seen before,” said Vijay, signaling a strong challenge to the ruling party.

The actor-turned-politician took on Chief Minister MK Stalin, criticizing his government for an alleged decline in law and order and an increase in crimes against women.

“Why do you get so angry just by hearing about your governance? If you had ruled properly, women’s safety and law and order would be intact. I can’t even speak about the atrocities being committed against women,” Vijay stated.

Vijay also strongly opposed the proposed delimitation exercise, accusing the Union government of attempting to reduce Tamil Nadu’s representation in Parliament.

“In the name of delimitation, you (Union Government) are trying to reduce Tamil Nadu’s Parliamentary seats,” he asserted.

The TVK Chief further took on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, criticizing the ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal and warning the central government about Tamil Nadu’s political will.

“PM sir, we understand your plans when you spoke about One Nation, One Election. Tamil Nadu is a state that has shown its power many times. I would say, be careful, sir,” he cautioned.

During the general council meeting, TVK passed 17 resolutions, including opposition to:

  • Delimitation, calling it unnecessary and a move that would reduce southern states’ representation.
  • The National Education Policy’s three-language formula, reaffirming Tamil Nadu’s commitment to the two-language policy and opposing what they termed an “imposition” of another language.
  • The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, urging the Centre to withdraw it.

With this strong stance on state rights, federalism, and governance issues, Vijay has positioned TVK as a formidable player in the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections, setting the stage for an intense political battle in Tamil Nadu.
